Freedom inspires me to write, the need to feel free, the need to express my thoughts, the need to be heard by someone, anyone. All of these things inspire me to write.
As I said last week, I know there is a novel locked up inside of me somewhere waiting for the right moment to come out. Sometimes I think that I think about it too much and that is why I can’t actually do it, it’s performance anxiety.
In the meantime, I continue to practice my skill/art and to teach others the principles that I believe make a good writer.
Why do you write?

Maya Angelou once said, ““I thought for a long time that I was a writer who could teach, but…I realized I’m a teacher who can write.” I can totally relate to this statement.
I want to write a book. I know I have a book inside of me somewhere, maybe even several books. I know I have the ability to write. I also have the ability to teach; I am a teacher.
While I may not be as prolific a writer as Maya Angelou, who wrote some 31 or more books, I will continue trying to accomplish my goal of publishing at least one book before I die.
Maya Angelou was an inspiration, and she will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Maya Angelou, rest in peace.
I am one of those people who must have a To-Do List or I am lost. It gives me a plan for my day. I think this goes along with being a Type-A personality. A To-Do List goes well with writing because when you begin you should have a plan.
The planning portion of your writing can begin with a brainstorming session and a list with keywords you want to include, a mind-map or chart of related words, color-coded sticky notes, an outline, or some other form of organization that works for you.
Sometimes just having a title for your writing helps to inspire you and keep you on track. For me, it is a little of each, depending on the day.
However, for the most part, I must have a list of things to do for the day or I am lost. Just the act of writing a list, or having one in my head, keeps me on-track for the day.
Once all the items on my To-Do List are checked off….Ta-Dah! I am finished and can relax.
